What is Voltage follower?

Latest Updated:02/01/2006

Question:

Voltage follower

Answer:

A voltage follower is a non-inverting amplifier that uses an operational amplifier. It consists of a circuit that returns 100% of the output signal to the minus side, and is therefore also called a full-feedback amplifier. The name comes from the fact that the output voltage tracks (follows) the input voltage (gain = 1).
This circuit has no gain, but since it has high input impedance and low output impedance, it is used for impedance conversion.
