Moisture Sensitivity Level (MSL) / Pre-bake

Last Updated: 07/07/2016

Question:

Where can I find the Moisture Sensitivity Level (MSL) of a product? How do I know if I need to pre-bake the parts and if so, what temperature and how long?

Answer:

The moisture sensitivity level (MSL) may be expressed in two ways as indicated on right side of the inner product label by items #4 & #5 shown below:

#4 Mounting condition (T: Temperature, L: Life, B: Bake)

#5 Moisture Sensitive Level (MSL) per JEDEC-STD-020 See our package handling guide for further details.

If a humidity indicator card is packed and the 30% hygroscope detection part has turned lavender (pink), or if the packages have been stored beyond the time limit, bake the devices according to Renesas Semiconductor Package Mount Manual.
Absent MSL or mounting condition information
