MODE pin state when reset is deasserted, user program/standard serial I/O

Question:

When running a user program or in standard serial I/O mode, what is the effect of the state of the MODE pin when reset is deasserted?

Answer:

For the R8C Family, the operating mode depends on the state of the MODE pin when reset is deasserted, as shown below.

- When reset is deasserted when the MODE pin is at high level
  Mode: Single-chip mode
  Operation: Program runs on flash memory

- When reset is deasserted when the MODE pin is at low level
  Mode: Standard serial I/O mode
  Operation: Possible to rewrite user ROM area
