Latest Updated:08/01/2005

Question:

Polling

Answer:

Polling is the periodic interrogation of devices to check the status of their internal flags and the status of input from external, and can be compared to order-taking. Whereas only statuses are obtained with scanning, polling goes one step further by judging the obtained statuses.

For example, regarding input statuses in the case of a system that performs a specific type of processing, periodically polled inputs can be compared with the expected values and if they match, the corresponding processing made to be performed.
