Value of on chip debug byte not disabling for on-chip debug operation

Latest Updated:07/04/2013

Question:

I am debugging the RL78 family MCU in the CubeSuite+ environment using the E1 or E20 emulator.
Though [No] is selected for [Use on-chip debug] in the [Link Options] tab on the Property panel of the build tool, the value of the on-chip debug option byte is not disabling on-chip debug operation.

Answer:

The setting of [Use on-chip debug] in the [Link Options] tab indicates whether the linker is to make settings related to on-chip debugging. [No] being selected for [Use on-chip debug] means that the linker does not set the on-chip debug option byte.

The following settings have to be made for the linker to disable on-chip debug operation using the on-chip debug option byte.

  1. Select [Link Options] tab -> [Use on-chip debug] -> [Yes].
  2. Input 04* in [Option byte values for OCD].

* For the input value, confirm the format of the on-chip debug option byte in the hardware manual of each device.
