Why do an error occur when I start up E8a emulator using H8 Family MCU?

Latest Updated:05/08/2008

Question:

When starting up the E8a emulator in the "Keep Flash and Connect" mode, using an H8 Family MCU, the following error is displayed:
ID Code Error

Answer:

This may be occurring because you are writing a program to the MCU in the "Program Flash" mode previous to the "Keep Flash and Connect" mode.
The ID code is only valid during the debug operation. When a program is written in the "Program Flash" mode, the ID code becomes invalid. Therefore, after a program is written to the MCU in the "Program Flash" mode, and the debugger is started up in the "Keep Flash and Connect" mode, the ID code error is displayed and the debugger starts running with all the contents of the flash memory erased.

Another possible cause is an incorrect value was input as the ID code when the debugger was started up in the "Erase Flash and Connect" mode, which causes the ID code error to be displayed when the debugger is started up in the "Keep Flash and Connect" mode as well. In this case, as well, the contents of the flash memory are erased.
